Phex was born on 15th August 2000. He is some kind of Belgian shepherd, possibly a Tervueren. He looks like Lassie and everybody likes him.
He belonged to a woman that get’s herself kittens and puppies, and when they grow up, she puts them in an animal shelter. She put Phex into the animal shelter in Bernay where we found him 2002. The bosses needed a new guarddog and took Phex.
I know about his former owners because we have the same vet.
The stress with beau started in the car. Beau loved to have sex with male dogs, and not only because of a domination thingy. Phex was not amused by Beaus flirting. Some days later they had fixed the hierarchy. They liked to play together and run through the park after a toy.
It took some more days to make Phex adapt to the sheep. In the beginning he was yipping when he saw a sheep ans wanted to run to it. I put him on a leash and took him very slowly to the sheep and stopped to advance when he became nervous. He understood fast, that sheep are normal. He still acts like an idiot when he sees cows or horses.
His face has as much capability of showing expression that that of a wolf. He loves all kinds of baby animals, kittens, lambs and puppies.
One day I was throwing sticks, the ground was humid, and the stick stuck in the ground. Overeager Phex jumped on the stick and pierced his palatine. He was bleeding a lot and he needed suturation under general anaesthesia by our vet in Bernay. The bosses gave me the dog afterwards and he is registered on me.
In 2005 he had his next accident. He fell at night in the moat and cut his feet. He crawled back home and collapsed on the doorstep. He was bleeding heavily, but not whining at all, prepared to die quietly. I found him around midnight and made a pressure bandage and brought him to the vet in Lieurey the next morning. The vet patched his feet up in an emergency operation. He wasn’t allowed to use the foot for a while, but today he can run nearly as fast as before the operation. His foot looks a bit strange and it sometimes hurts, when the weather changes.
In 2007 Phex started to crawl over and under fences to get to dog girls. I had to close the meadow. Now he only escapes when I forget to close the gate. If he escapes, he runs to a small town 2km north of here and visits a nice guy (and his she-dog). The guy is used to take a walk with Phex and bring it back to us. He likes Phex. It’s scary though, when Phex runs away, because he crosses a big road with lots of crazy French drivers and if he ever would produce puppies I could get sued.
