The church of Pont-Authou

Pont-Authou lies at the Risle river. It is a village with around 700 inhabitants and a nice and active town centre. The church is quite big, quite new and open.

Back to the church: The church is dedicated to King Louis IX of France (1214-1270), who was canonized in 1297 and is the only French monarch, that became a saint. The church was built on the fundaments of an old church of the 13th century. The old church burned down in the 19th century. The new church was built from 1865 to 1872 by the architect Étienne Bouguignon using the furnishing of the old church. The construction took longer, because the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 interrupted it.
